Permission For Youth Choir Festival in Pittsburgh
Welcome Letter
August 18, 2011
Dear Parents of Prospective Holy Family Youth Choir Members –
I would like to take this opportunity to invite your student to join the Holy Family Youth Choir. The choir is such a joy to our entire parish! This year we are so fortunate to have our parish music director – and my sister – Mary Ann Bilas Bush – with us on a full time basis. The year promises to be full of fun and surprises as only Mary Ann can deliver!
Members of the HFYC are also considered members of the Diocesan Youth Choir. Students in grades 3-12, girls and boys, are welcome in the HFYC and in the Diocesan Youth Choir! This year, we plan to attend a youth choir festival in Pittsburgh on March 10, 2012, along with choirs from surrounding dioceses. It promises to be a great event your students will always remember! The highpoint of the festival will be a Mass celebrated with the voices of all the students attending the choir festival. Please mark your calendars! More details will be announced as the date draws near.
HFYC rehearsals will follow a format similar to that of recent years:
- Tuesday rehearsals (2:30-3:30 PM) will be intended for Holy Family School students as they will prepare for school liturgies as well as weekend and special liturgies.
- Wednesday rehearsals (6:00-6:45 PM) will be focused on weekend and special liturgies where the HFYC is involved. High school students are invited to the Wednesday rehearsals. If a student attends rehearsal on Tuesday, she or he does not need to attend the Wednesday rehearsal.
- If weather is severe or inclement, please check your email or ‘HFYC’ on Facebook or local TV ‘crawls’ or local TV websites to see if rehearsals or choir performances are cancelled.
- If Holy Family School is closed for any reason on a Tuesday when choir rehearsals are scheduled, the rehearsal on that day will be cancelled as well.
- If Poland Schools are closed for any reason on a Wednesday when a choir rehearsal is scheduled, the rehearsal on that day will be cancelled as well.
- Parents who wish to supply a treat for the choir are warmly welcomed to do so! Drop me a text or email or phone call to arrange this on a day of your choosing.
Choir practice should always be a time of fun and camaraderie for all students involved. However, a certain degree of decorum is necessary to keep order and make progress in our ministry. In order to ensure a productive and positive choir environment the following process will continue for this coming school year:
If a student is judged by the director to be significantly disruptive to proceedings, he or she will be asked to continue rehearsal by sitting in a designated church pew for 10 minutes. The student will then rejoin the group. If the student incurs two or more reprimands during one rehearsal, a parent will be called to provide assistance to the student in achieving appropriate behavior during choir.
(You know, I did not need to use this guideline at all last year! Our students are wonderful!)
Thank you, dear parents, for your kind unwavering support! Your questions and comments are always welcome.
